Cascade was developed in the U.S.D.A. breeding program in Oregon and released as a U.S. aroma variety in 1972. It is characterised by a dark green elongated cone which contains low amounts of alpha acids.

Cascade helped pioneer the modern pale ale, walking so that popular IPA hops like Citra could run. Bred from Fuggles and Serebrianker, Cascade was developed in the USA for a breeding program in Oregon and released in 1972. Thanks to its high levels of myrcene, they have a loud citrusy flavor that goes down easy. Making up 10% of all hops grown in the United States, Cascade is still the definitive choice for American Pale Ales and Blonde Ales.
